Save on Grocery Store Expenses

Going to the grocery store doesn't have to break your budget each month.

Going to the grocery store doesn’t have to break your budget each month.

For most of us, the grocery store never disappoints when it comes to having a pricey bill at the end of a shopping trip. Whether you are shopping for yourself or for a family of five, the bill always seems to be higher than you expected. The good news is that there are some tips and tricks you can follow to help you save on each trip to the grocery store:

Eat Before the Store: When you are hungry, it is easy to find something appetizing in each grocery aisle you walk through. This may tempt you to buy more or unnecessary food items. Make sure you eat a satisfying meal or snack before you head to the store to prevent you from making these extra purchases.

Make a List: Prepare a list of food items that you need before you head to the grocery store. Then you will be less inclined to buy anything that is not on your list, which helps you stick to your budget.

Check for Store Savings: Look for the store’s sale flyer to find coupons and discounts. They often contain cut-out coupons and highlight store sales to help you tailor your grocery list to buy on-sale or cheaper items.

Buy Store Brands: Many times, the store brand product is very similar to the name brand product in quality but is a lot more affordable in price. Buying store brand can knock off a big portion of your final grocery bill.

Join the Store’s Loyalty Program: If you do all of your grocery shopping in the same store, consider joining their loyalty program (if they have one). Many loyalty programs send out additional information on store sales and can offer special discounts on more of their products.

Timberwood Bank hopes that these money-saving tips save you from breaking your budget at the grocery store each month!
